Space Surveillance
We develop advanced solutions for the detection and tracking of space objects (satellites, debris) that contribute to Space Situational Awareness (SSA) and the safety of in-orbit operations.
Our systems rely on data from ground-based and on-board optical sensors, as well as high-performance algorithms that enable the analysis of complex space scenes.
The development of processing chains covering all requirements
We design and develop processing chains dedicated to space surveillance, covering all functions relating to the detection, tracking and location of objects in orbit.
Advanced processing algorithms
We develop high-performance algorithms for:
- the detection of low-contrast objects in noisy environments
- multi-object tracking and trajectory estimation
- location in celestial reference frame
These developments are based on a proven software foundation that is continually enhanced to meet the growing demands of the SSA sector.
Contributions of artificial intelligence
To complement traditional approaches, we incorporate machine learning methods to:
- improve detection performance under degraded conditions
- perform advanced noise reduction and image restoration
- automate certain processing steps
These approaches are implemented in a controlled manner in combination with physical models to ensure robustness.
Multi-sensor compatibility
Our solutions are designed to be compatible with a wide range of optical sensors:
- ground-based telescopes
- satellite-borne sensors
- observation systems dedicated to space surveillance
This flexibility allows for easy integration into existing or future architectures.
Simulation and validation
We develop high-fidelity optical space scene simulators, enabling us to:
- generate representative data to test and validate algorithms
- assess system performance
- train artificial intelligence models
- train operators
These tools are a key driver for accelerating development and ensuring performance under operational conditions.
We develop advanced solutions for the detection and tracking of space objects, and help to improve situational awareness in space and ensure the safety of operations in orbit.

Key projects
TAROT for CNES
We are responsible for the detection and tracking of space objects and debris, a service that has been operational since 2015 using the TAROT telescope network.
EU SST for the European Union
Development in 2020–2021 of the ‘high-fidelity’ simulator and new functions for the detection and tracking of space objects.
FR2030 COS3
France 2030 project operated by CNES. As co-contractors with ArianeGroup and Eutelsat, we are developing the space-based version of this object detection and tracking capability.
Our other expertises
Sensor geometry
We work with images acquired by Earth observation satellites. We build, optimise and use a geometric model of Earth Observation sensors.
Measurement Physics and Radiometry
Our expertise covers image quality, measurement physics and radiometry in the optical domain. This includes equalisation, stray light correction, absolute calibration, etc.
Ground segment
We provide Image Ground Segments for Earth Observation satellites, developing the processing chains, the orchestration, the cataloguing and archiving of the image products, including instrument simulation and ground-based processing prototypes.
Thematic Applications
We carry out scientific studies, manage projects on value-added products (L3/L4) and provide services in various thematic fields.
Space Surveillance
We have developed expertise and solutions for the detection and tracking of space objects (satellites and debris), from the ground or on board satellites.
